Morning Mindfulness

The saying goes, you are what you eat.  True, very true.  But, you are what you think, you are what you read, you are what you focus your energy on.  Also true.  We pick up little bits and pieces of everything we expose ourselves to and experience every day.  Why not take control of that energy and make it a positive force in our lives? 

I have been practicing getting up early, before the kids wake up, every morning and setting my mind on positivity, gratitude, and self-improvement.  Let me tell you, the change was immediate.  With just 30 minutes in the morning my whole attitude shifted.  I am more aware of my choices, my interactions with people, the part I play in those interactions, and my response to situations that arise throughout the day.  It’s not something that has just happened to me, it is something that I am consciously working on. Every time I fail (which will inevitably happen) I see it as another opportunity to get better, to grow, and to take control of my actions, my thoughts and my attitude.

Starting the day with mindfulness can help you make healthy choices throughout the day.  When you change your mind about food, start to let go of the rules you have set around what you can and can’t eat, forgive yourself for past dieting attempts and failures, give yourself permission to be present in the moment, and trust yourself to make a healthy choice because it is the best thing for your body, you will find freedom to truly live your healthiest life. 

Give it a try.  Get up in the morning, even if it’s not any earlier quite yet, and change the script in your head.  Focus on something positive, set your healthy intention for the day and say something kind to yourself in the mirror.  You might feel silly, do it anyway.  It might feel unnatural, it’s not.  You have to put in the work to change your life and starting your day with positivity and gratitude for the good things in life will go a long way in setting a strong foundation on which to build your healthiest life.
