Easy Swaps for a More Nutritious Day
Creating your healthiest life and following a healthy diet doesn’t have to happen overnight. It can happen one choice at a time. Making small, realistic changes is a more sustainable way to change your habits. Here are a few quick and easy swaps in your everyday life that can make a big difference.
Your Morning Coffee
Switch from artificial creamer, artificial sweeteners, or added sugar to plain old, organic half and half. You’ll cut out artificial ingredients and tons of added sugar without missing out on the creaminess the half and half offers.
Breakfast
Instead of starting the day with a sugar filled breakfast – like a bagel (yes that is technically a sugar-filled breakfast), bowl of cereal, breakfast bar, or pastry - grab something with protein, fat and high fiber carbs instead – like a few hardboiled eggs, a handful of almonds, and an apple.
Snacks
Swap your salty, crunchy, prepackaged snacks for veggies and hummus. You still get the crunch you’re looking for with even more nutrients and without the unhealthy ingredients.
Dinner
Double the veg. Instead of having a grain-based carb at dinner – like pasta, rice, or bread – go for a double serving of vegetables – like some salmon with roasted broccoli and roasted sweet potato fries. You aren’t cutting out calories, just simply swapping out poor quality calories for much more nutrient dense options.
After Dinner Treat
Keep the ice cream in the freezer and swap it out for a piece of dark chocolate and a few dried cherries. You still get to enjoy something sweet, but don’t have to worry about all of the added sugar ice cream has to offer.
