Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

The other day I was doing one of those things on instagram where the reel is quickly rolling through a bunch of different quotes and you have to screen shot or pause at the moment you feel ready and whatever message is displayed is meant for you.

So I got my thumb ready to pause, closed my eyes, felt for the moment the universe told me it was time and stopped the reel.  I got my message and was like, ok well, maybe my timing was off because that’s not the message I needed.  So, I tried again.  I closed my eyes harder this time, felt deeper for the exact moment that felt right and I paused.

And it was the exact same message.

So I chuckled to myself and God, said “good one” to the universe, and decided maybe I did need that message after all.

And here’s what it said, “Get comfortable being uncomfortable.  That’s where growth happens.”

I thought, surely I’m already good at this.  I work out hard, ask the tough questions, have the uncomfortable conversations when needed, discipline myself pretty well.  I don’t shy away from discomfort, truly, I don’t, I have come to embrace it.  I understand at a deep level that comfort is the enemy of growth.  But for some reason, I needed to hear this message.

So I started asking myself where in my life I need to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable, and as is always the case, once I started asking, the answers were pretty obvious.

Had I not questioned myself, I would have just kept going in my daily life unchanged, unaware of the potential I was leaving on the table.  So, although I thought the universe had sent me the wrong message, it turns out it was exactly what I needed to hear.  It was the clarity I needed in an area where I had grown complacent.

Clarity is everything when it comes to changing your habits.  If you don’t even know that you’re doing something, then you won’t recognize the need for change.

In our CHOICE blueprint, clarity is step #1.  Before making any sort of changes, you need awareness - awareness of where you’re starting and the vision of where you want to go.  That clarity is what guides your choices moving forward. It allows you the ability to line up your choices with the outcome you’re working towards.

Clarity allows you to see your current habits, observe their impact on your health and the results that you want, and then create an intention around changing those habits so that you can start doing the work to take you where you want to go.

In Mind Your Metabolism I walk through each step of the CHOICE blueprint to guide you from where you are to where you want to be.  I give you the tools to change your habits around your mindset, movement, diet, sleep, and stress, so that you can optimize your metabolism and ultimately change your life.

So, where do you need to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable?
